Q. What is different at Florida Secure Storage than at other storage facilities?
A. We have state of the art security to safeguard your possessions, individual alarms on each unit door, extra wide aisles for easy loading and unloading, and computer controlled gate access.
Q. What are your access hours?
A. The facility is available 7 days a week to renters from 6 AM to 9 PM. We are not open 24 hours, because security is one of our main concerns and we believe all night access is not good security.
Q. How does gate access work?
A. Each time you enter the facility, you will key in your secret code into the keypad for each vehicle that enters. This code triggers the computers to lift the gate and then disarms the security system on YOUR UNIT DOOR ONLY. The rest of the units on the facility are still alarmed at all times. When you leave, you input your code into the exit keypad which will raise the gate and re-arm the security system on your unit. If you have multiple units, the computer knows this and will activate security for all of your units when you enter and exit.
Q. How long is the lease term?
A. Each unit lease is on a month to month basis.
Q. Do you pro-rate rent?
A. We will pro-rate your rent when you move in to establish a first of the month billing cycle for you. Then, it is easy to remember that your rent is due on the first of every month and you will have the availability of the unit for the entire month.
Q. Is there a security deposit?
A. No
Q. Do you take credit cards?
A. Yes, we take Visa, Master Card, and American Express. We can even auto debit your card on the first of each month for your convenience.
Q. What kind of lock should I use?
A. When you rent with us, we provide you with a heavy duty cylinder padlock with each unit you rent. They are yours to keep when you are done renting the space. With security in mind, we believe providing the best lock to safegaurd your possessions is important. We never recycle locks or keys that would compromise security. Also, the more valuable the possessions are to you, the stronger lock you would purchase to safeguard your stuff. In other facilities, a quick glance down the aisles will tell you the unit value by the kind of lock on the door. Here, all locks are strong & look alike for better security.
Q. Do I need additional insurance?
A. While your items are in storage they are not covered by us for loss or damage. We strongly recommend that all customers take advantage of the insurance offered by Minico. Do not assume that your homeowners policy covers stored goods. Please check with your insurance agent for details.
Q. What items can't be stored?
A. You cannot store hazardous, toxic, or illegal items. Also, no food or perishables may be stored in your space. Examples of items that cannot be stored are: Ammunitions, gasoline, paint, thinner, propane, dry food, produce, plants, fireworks, etc.
Q. Do you have climate controlled units and why use them?
A. Yes, we do offer climate controlled units in a variety of sizes from 3x3x4 to 15x25. Most people store their possessions in a climate controlled space to keep them out of the Florida humidity. Clothes and wood items have a tendancy to not weather well in this climate when exposed to the humidity. Our buildings have electronic thermostats with 4 program times per day that will vary the temperature of the building for optimum humidity control.
Q. What about pest control?
A. We provide professional pest control that applies product and monitors us on a monthly basis.
Q. Do your units have electric inside?
A. No, we do not provide any electric or water access for any unit.
Q. Do you pay referral fees?
A. Yes, we have a generous referral policy. Please stop in the office for details.
Q. Where is Okahumpka, Florida?
A. Okahumpka Florida is an area of Lake County Florida adjacent to Leesburg, Florida. Our facility is actually located in Leesburg Florida city limits but has a Okahumpka Florida mailing address. We believe you can't say Okahumpka without cracking a smile. Have a great day.
